E85
E85 is a mixture of bioethanol with petrol: 85% bioethanol and 15% petrol. This kind of fuel is used in flexible cars, which incorporate an electronic system that allows the detection of the type of fuel used. Therefore, these cars are capable to work with petrol or any other mix with up to 85% of bioethanol. The engines that use this fuel usually have greater power than the ones that only function with petrol essentially due to the higher octane rating of this biofuel.
Also, the ecological character of this kind of engine is becoming very popular in the Swedish market, where one in ten vehicles sold by renowned brands such as Saab is flexible. Other car brands both European and American already have E85 engines. In the Brazilian market, the world’s main bioethanol producer, more than 60% of the new vehicles have flexible engines. In Spain, both Ford and Saab are already selling products with this type of engine to the public.
